IB1, welcome to the KISU CAS programme!

The term CAS stands for Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) and is at the heart of the IB Diploma Program and involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies

What does CAS stand for?

Creativity: arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking.

Action: physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work elsewhere in the Diploma Program. 

Service: an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected

What are the aims of the CAS programme? 

The CAS program aims to develop students who are:  

• Reflective thinkers

• Willing to accept new challenges and roles

• Aware of themselves as members of communities

• Active participants in sustained, collaborative projects

• Balanced

What should CAS involve?

For student development to occur, CAS should involve:

• Real, purposeful activities, with significant outcomes

• Personal challenge: tasks must extend the student and be achievable in scope 

• Thoughtful consideration, planning, review, reporting 

• Reflection on outcomes and personal learning. 

What will I need to do to complete the CAS programme?

• actively engage in CAS activities for the two years of the programme

• develop a collaborative project for a minimum of two terms

• record evidence of your participation in activities and projects

• develop a balanced CAS portfolio  

• meet the eight learning outcomes

• submit reflections for your ongoing involvement

How will I record my CAS progress?

Your reflections and evidence can take various forms (journal, sketchbook, certificates, videos, photos, etc.).

You are, however, encouraged to develop a paperless portfolio.

You will all need: 

• a Dropbox account 

• a Blogspot account to record your activities and submit reflections

• a Youtube account

• a Picasa account
